Your Needs Matter

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home. It can be command central: the gathering space often referred to as "the heart of the home." So when a kitchen remodel is considered, the layout and functionality must realistically reflect your needs, personality, and lifestyle. To accomplish this goal, the layout must utilize every square inch with an efficient work triangle and the decorating must represent the character of your family.

When planning your new kitchen, it is important to understand what you want to gain from the new design. You must determine your priorities.

• What works in your existing kitchen? What features are integral parts of your kitchen experience?
• How do you plan on using your new kitchen? Cooking? Eating-in? Entertaining? Home headquarters? Study lounge?
• What kitchen layouts appeal to you?
• What looks or styles do you love? Modern, minimalist, cottage, country, traditional, or a combination?
• What is a favorite color of yours and can it be incorporated into a new color scheme for your kitchen? Are there any materials that you are attracted to?

TIP: A good way to help find out what you like and dislike is to collect ideas over time. Write your ideas down in a notebook and develop your personal wish list for your ideal kitchen. This is called creating an idea file. Creating an Idea File
