How Long Will My Kitchen Remodel Really Take?

Remodeling a kitchen is not a weekend, or even a week-long project. No matter how quickly Extreme Makeover: Home Edition or HGTV make it seem, the average remodel is a process that will often take a few months. The future remodeler should understand that splitting up the remodel into separate phases will help make the project more manageable

Below, we've split up the remodeling process into six distinct stages. Each stage has a variety of tasks that should be worked on concurrently and finished before moving on to the next stage. This will help keep the remodeler on track and always working towards the renovation's completion.

We've also included an estimate of how long each stage should take. But, this is merely an estimate because every remodel is different and will vary in complexity. For example, some may buy customized kitchen cabinets that take months to build, while others will purchase from a dealer or conveniently online.

Remember, life happens and there are always unforeseen complications that can come up at any time. Depending on where you live, there are better times for remodeling than others. If you're planning to have the remodel completed before an important event, such as a graduation party, set a completion deadline two months prior to the event. This will act as a buffer for problems that could arise and allow you to work out kinks after the renovation.
The typical kitchen remodel will take between 8 and 13 weeks.
